MEWPS for Managers is a one-day training course aimed at managers and supervisors who need to safely manage work at height and the use of mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs). Companies that use MEWPs need to know what their management and legal responsibilities are.
The course covers what managers need to know about the safe use of MEWPs on site, from planning the job and conducting a risk assessment, to selecting the right equipment and mitigating all possible risks. The legal requirements regarding rescue planning for the company, the MEWP Operator and the wider workforce. This course is highly recommended to support anyone who issues permits to work for MEWPs as part of their role.
Under UK health and safety legislation, specifically, the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) and the Work at Height Regulations 2005, employers must train all employees who plan, supervise and manage work at height and the use of equipment for such work.
Anyone who is responsible for planning or overseeing the use of MEWPS as part of their role.
OBJECTIVES: At the end of the course the candidate will:
• Be fully aware of the relevant Health & Safety regulations and accident prevention and control
• Be fully aware of the needs regarding personal protection equipment
• Be fully aware of the need to refer to the machine operating manual and of the need for familiarisations
• Be fully aware of the implications of a hire contract
• Be fully aware of the importance of selecting the correct machine
• Be fully aware of planning and maintenance considerations
This course is about planning, supervising and managing the use of MEWPS, and NOT about operating equipment. It ends with a written exam which the candidate must pass. Upon successful completion of the theory test, the candidates will receive an IPAF certificate.
