The Challenges

The hospital faced several key challenges within their facility:

  • Safety concerns with steps and ladders: The use of steps and ladders for carrying out maintenance activities increased the risks of workers falling from height.

  • Hygiene: The hospital needs equipment that is easy to clean and meets strict hygiene standards.

  • Space constraints: Restricted access around wards, corridors along with need for using passenger lifts to move equipment around the facility.

Our Solution

HLS introduced the Hugo Lift, a push-around vertical lift designed for indoor use, to solve the hospital challenges.

Key areas of the solution included:

  • Improving access: With a working height of 4.2m and its compact size (0.73m wide x 1.17m in length), Hugo is ideal for working in wards and transporting through lifts.

  • Increase productivity: Hugo Lift can be manoeuvred in confined spaces and operated by one person with minimal disruption. Tools and equipment can be carried on designated cargo shelf reducing manual handling.

  • Improved safety: Reduced risks of falls from height with engineers able to work with both hands free and for longer duration without need of a break.

The Results

The company hired the Hugo Lift and identified a number of beneficial improvements:

  • A safer solution for working at height by reducing the risk of falls from ladders creating a safer environment for both contractors, staff, and patients.

  • Hugo’s lightweight design allowed for movement in passenger lifts, easy to push around and store.

  • Improved efficiency during maintenance operations, allowing workers to carry out tasks such as lighting and heating maintenance more quickly without causing disruptions to patients and staff.
